Izzy's Story
From Izzy's Mom, Sylvia - "If I could say just one thing to all of the people
who support
Ronald McDonald House Charities, I would say this
What you have done, is made an impact in my life and that of my
family that will never be forgotten. The charity, its mission
and its people help make cancer a disease, not a death
sentence.
It helps make life, healing, survivorship and the future center stage."
Life can change dramatically
in a day.
About an hour after four-year old Izzy had a CT scan, for what was thought to be because of migraines, Izzy's mom was given the news that their beautiful, vibrant, energetic baby girl had a mass growing on her brain. "Needless to say, life as we knew it changed...in less than an hour," said Izzy's mom.
After surgery, Izzy was diagnosed with an aggressive, cancerous brain tumor.
A place to refresh and regroup.
While staying by Izzy's side in the hospital, Izzy's family learned that they could visit the Ronald McDonald Family Room (located in Children's Mercy Hospital) for a shower and home-cooked meals provided by volunteers. Per Izzy's mom, "Wow, a shower, what a treat!"
Ronald McDonald House - a home-away-from-home.
Izzy's family was later told about a place to stay, "Ronald McDonald House", so that they can help focus on their child and try to have some "normalcy" in the midst of their whirlwind called cancer.
The Ronald McDonald House in Longfellow Park became their retreat, refuge and sanctuary during their terrible time. "This place, this charity, brings hope. It brings peace," said Izzy's mom.
