Red shoe Society General Store

The General Store, located inside the Ronald McDonald Longfellow House, was created by the Red Shoe Society (formerly Friends of the House) in 2007. The General Store houses donated toys, games, clothing, hats, and other items that families staying at RMHC-KC can “purchase” with the McBucks they receive upon check-in and throughout their stay. The families of critically sick children may not have the time or resources to shop at other locations, or have the opportunity to purchase birthday or holiday gifts for loved ones while they are staying at RMHC-KC. The General Store also gives the children undergoing treatment who are staying at RMHC-KC something to look forward to from week to week. One guest stated, “My daughter awaits the opening of the General Store with great anticipation. During the often mundane routine of day to day treatment, shopping in the General Store gives her something she can truly look forward to”.

The General Store is open to families twice a week, and is staffed by volunteers. For more information on items needed, please check out the General Store Wish List. For information regarding open volunteer shifts, please contact Travis Roth.
