Ronald McDonald Houses
The Ronald McDonald Houses are a “Home Away From Home” for thousands of families every year who must travel to the Kansas City area to receive medical treatment for a sick or injured child. Families must be referred by a social worker or nurse in order to stay at the Ronald McDonald Houses. The Houses become a home to its residents by addressing three basic needs:
- Comfortable lodging in a warm, friendly atmosphere including a private family bedroom and facilities for cooking, laundry and recreation.
- An emotional support system with other residents, staff and volunteers acting as extended family and friends.
- A way to re-establish a sense of control or responsibility in one’s life by creating a cooperative atmosphere.
